Week 28 Review: Article 5

From Goodreads:
New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., have been abandoned.

The Bill of Rights has been revoked, and replaced with the Moral Statutes.

There are no more police—instead, there are soldiers. There are no more fines for bad behavior—instead, there are arrests, trials, and maybe worse. People who get arrested usually don't come back.

Seventeen-year-old Ember Miller is old enough to remember that things weren't always this way. Living with her rebellious single mother, it's hard for her to forget that people weren't always arrested for reading the wrong books or staying out after dark. It's hard to forget that life in the United States used to be different.

Ember has perfected the art of keeping a low profile. She knows how to get the things she needs, like food stamps and hand-me-down clothes, and how to pass the random home inspections by the military. Her life is as close to peaceful as circumstances allow.

That is, until her mother is arrested for noncompliance with Article 5 of the Moral Statutes. And one of the arresting officers is none other than Chase Jennings—the only boy Ember has ever loved.

My Review:
Oh, I really enjoyed this book! Action, romance, and a world that is pretty darned horrible, but some people still can find goodness in their hearts. At least, some people, because some of the things that happened in this book, were pretty horrible.

I really hated the Articles, that was America, that they should sink so low, well, it is people, so I guess I'm not surprised, when bad things happen, people show their real colours, and for most people, when in fear, they do bad things, and when it's to a bunch of people, there's the whole mob mentality thing.

I hated that they would change the rules to affect things that happened before they came into power, when their rules didn't apply, well, that's extremely unjust in a world that they've created that has a lot of injustice as it is! So that was Ember's situation.

Chase, I wondered why he said that story like it was about someone else, and not him, it helps Ember later on when she figures it out, but other then that, it was just weird, he could've either said nothing, or told the real story. Though I did feel sorry for him to go through that!

All in all, a great first book in the series, and I can't wait for more!
